Description:
The Fort Nelson River Bridge is a double- wide, highway standard bridge with a total length of 320m (1051ft) x 10m (33ft) wide. Built on a foundation of concrete filled pipe piles, it is a steel structure with pre-cast concrete deck panels, pre-cast concrete abutments and pre-cast concrete ballast walls. This bridge which was built for the Ministry of Energy & Mines,and is a key component in the Sierra Yoyo Main project, the purpose of which was to provide access to natural gas fields and circumvent existing hazard points. Construction of the bridge was a co-operative effort between Ruskin Construction Ltd. and Peter Kiewit & Sons. The bridge was completed in a total of 6 months and officially named as a “P3 Bridge” at the opening ceremony on November 1, 2004.
