Buyer/Procurement Specialist

Ruskin Construction is seeking an experienced Buyer / Procurement Specialist with strong knowledge of the construction, heavy civil, marine, or industrial sectors. The ideal candidate understands vendor management, procurement processes, and is comfortable working in a fast‑paced, project-driven environment. Experience with Sage (Sage 300 CRE or similar) is a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end procurement for materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate vendor/supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and schedule performance.
  • Issue purchase orders, negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and site teams to support project needs.
  • Track material deliveries, resolve delays or discrepancies, and maintain accurate procurement records.
  • Utilize Sage for PO creation, cost coding, invoice matching, and reporting.
  • Support vendor prequalification, contract administration, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with logistics and supply chain planning.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of procurement experience in construction, heavy civil, marine, industrial, or similar industries.
  • Strong understanding of vendor management and sourcing strategies.
  • Proficiency with Sage (Sage 300 CRE preferred) and MS Office.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.

Assets

  • SCMP or equivalent procurement certification.
  • Experience with large-scale project procurement or remote/logistics-heavy projects.
  • Familiarity with steel, piling, marine equipment, or heavy construction supply chains.

Safety Advisors – Camp

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on‑site safety leadership and support for civil, bridge, and infrastructure construction activities
  • Conduct field safety inspections, FLHAs, hazard assessments, and site audits
  • Support work at heights and fall protection activities
  • Participate in rope access activities to support safe access, inspections, and rescue readiness, including review of fall protection and rope access plans and verification of systems, anchors, and equipment compliance
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and field safety coaching
  • Monitor compliance with Ruskin safety plans, safe work procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in incident, near‑miss, and hazard investigations and support corrective actions
  • Verify worker training, competency, and certification for high‑risk activities
  • Act as a safety resource during complex or high‑risk work, including emergency response situations
  • Complete required safety documentation, reports, and client deliverables

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of safety experience in construction, heavy civil, marine, industrial, or similar industries
  • NCSO, CSO, CRSP, or equivalent professional designation
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of provincial occupational health and safety legislation (BC, AB, or other applicable jurisdictions)
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of rope access systems, high‑angle rescue methods, and related safety and rescue requirements
  • Strong communication, leadership, documentation, and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in remote, camp‑based environments
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Must be able to safely access and work in less accessible areas as required by the role, including locations requiring ladder entry. The position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and in marine environments, including on or around barges, docks, and floating structures.

    • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
    • Proficiency in project management tools/software
    • Attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • PMP certification or equivalent
