Buyer/Procurement Specialist

Ruskin Construction is seeking an experienced Buyer / Procurement Specialist with strong knowledge of the construction, heavy civil, marine, or industrial sectors. The ideal candidate understands vendor management, procurement processes, and is comfortable working in a fast‑paced, project-driven environment. Experience with Sage (Sage 300 CRE or similar) is a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end procurement for materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate vendor/supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and schedule performance.
  • Issue purchase orders, negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and site teams to support project needs.
  • Track material deliveries, resolve delays or discrepancies, and maintain accurate procurement records.
  • Utilize Sage for PO creation, cost coding, invoice matching, and reporting.
  • Support vendor prequalification, contract administration, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with logistics and supply chain planning.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of procurement experience in construction, heavy civil, marine, industrial, or similar industries.
  • Strong understanding of vendor management and sourcing strategies.
  • Proficiency with Sage (Sage 300 CRE preferred) and MS Office.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.

Assets

  • SCMP or equivalent procurement certification.
  • Experience with large-scale project procurement or remote/logistics-heavy projects.
  • Familiarity with steel, piling, marine equipment, or heavy construction supply chains.

Safety Advisors – (camp/remote work) Various project sites

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and implement Ruskin’s HSE program on active project sites
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, orientations, and safety meetings
  • Assist with incident investigations, reporting, and corrective action tracking
  • Provide coaching and guidance to workers and supervisors on safe work practices
  • Ensure compliance with provincial OHS regulations and company policies
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify and mitigate risks
  • Assist in building safe work plans.
  • Conduct hazard assessments.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of safety experience in construction, heavy civil, marine, industrial, or similar industries.
  • Must have NCSO, CSO, CRSP, or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of provincial OHS legislation (BC, AB, or other applicable regions)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work in remote or camp‑based environments
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Must be able to access and work in less accessible areas, including locations that require ladder entry. Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and capable of working safely in marine environments, including on or around barges, docks, and floating structures.

Project Managers

    • Oversee and manage daily construction projects

    • Knowledge of construction processes and regulations
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
    • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
    • Proficiency in project management tools/software
    • Attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • PMP certification or equivalent
